This new team-up between PlayStation and LeBron James will hopefully fare much better, as the new PlayStation PS5 console cover and DualSense controller look to celebrate James’s long and illustrious career as an NBA player and history of giving back to others. Back in 2021, a collection of limited-edition Space Jam: A New Legacy Xbox controllers was released to commemorate the movie, including a controller that came bundled with a pair of Nike LeBron 18 Low shoes modeled after Road Runner and Wile. This latest line of PlayStation 5 accessories isn’t the only specially-designed gaming hardware to be associated with LeBron James. While discussing his role in designing these new PS5 accessories, James stated that he hopes that his work will “inspire everyone who touches it, and that they have a little fun finding meaning in every detail.” Earlier today, Sony announced the first product to come from the initiative: a special edition PlayStation 5 DualSense controller and console cover marked with personal artwork and quotes from James himself. Now, LeBron James's connection to gaming has reached the next level thanks to his role as part of the new PlayStation Playmaker program. He has also been featured as a playable character in Fortnite and MultiVersus in addition to basketball titles like NBA 2K23. A recent example would be his humorous stint as Kratos in a God of War: Ragnarok trailer alongside the likes of Ben Stiller and John Travolta. When he isn’t dominating on the basketball court or giving back to his community, LeBron James has made appearances in several video games and game-related media. Of course, no list of world-famous athletes with a passion for gaming would be complete without LeBron James, the four-time NBA champion and star player for the Los Angeles Lakers. Some of the big names to already be connected to this exciting new initiative include professional BMX athlete Nigel Sylvester and WNBA All-Rookie NaLyssa Smith. First announced earlier this week, PlayStation's Playmaker program highlights famous content creators, athletes, actors, artists, gamers, and entertainers in the world of pop culture who wish to share their talents and love of gaming. LeBron James and PlayStation are teaming up to produce a special edition line of PS5 accessories as part of Sony’s new PlayStation Playmaker initiative.
